Confidence and self-esteem are the foundations on which a child builds a healthy life. A lack of self- confidence can cause many issues later in life.

Palestinian children living under occupation find themselves and their family frequently regarded by the occupiers as people of little worth. Children see their parents and siblings mocked and humiliated at checkpoints, denied access to certain areas and cut off from family and friends. They see their unemployed father shamed at not being able to support his family. They witness their mother anxious and depressed at circumstances beyond her control. All of these crucial experiences can help to form beliefs in children that influence the way they see themselves. Without therapy they may be damaged for life.
